If Congress president Rahul Gandhi is under the belief that he has managed to evolve as the ‘king of pun and sarcasm’ (mostly by setting on the rival Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi) with his witty and sharp one-liners on Twitter in the recent past, then he might need to perform some serious self-examination.
“So @OfficeOfRG, soot (pun intended!) -boot ki Sarkar with ‘black’ money fleeced from the Meghalayan State exchequer by rampant corruption? Instead of singing away our woes, you could have given a report card of your inefficient govt. in Meghalaya! Your indifference mocks us!” wrote Meghalaya BJP below the image which was coupled with the jacket’s original photo and price.
The jacket is a two-in-one down puffer jacket from Burberry, which is a British luxury fashion brand. On the Bloomingdales website, the price of the jacket was listed at Rs 68,145.
Obviously, the BJP’s tweet was in retaliation to Rahul Gandhi’s “suit boot” jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who got into a monogrammed suit during a meeting with US President Barack Obama in 2015.
The floor price of the suit at an auction was Rs 11 lakh, and it was sold for Rs 4.31 crore.
Congress leader Renuka Chowdhury reacted to the BJP’s allegation and said, “I can show you the same jacket for Rs 700.”
The Congress president was in Shillong to kick off the election campaign of the party in poll-bound Meghalaya.
The polling for the 60-member state Assembly will take office on February 27 along with Nagaland. The results will be announced on March 3.
